Established in 1985 in the heart of McLaren Vale, Beresford wines is family-owned and passionately South Australian. Our winemakers apply their extraordinary knowledge and expertise to handcraft wines of celebrated distinction, heroing the individuality and diversity of the McLaren Vale region. Beresford Estate is a 70-acre working vineyard producing award-winning wines of nuanced excellence. On the estate, stands Beresford House and Beresford Tasting Pavilion, both were built with modernistic architectural precision and an eye for indulgent detail, they provide a visionary space to experience the very best of Beresford.
Based at our Step Rd Winery in Langhorne Creek, our winemaking team skilfully craft our wines to not only reflect the values of the Beresford brand, but also encapsulates the nuances of the vineyard from which they were sourced.
Chris Dix, Chief Winemaker
Winemaking for Beresford is spearheaded by Chief Winemaker, Chris Dix, who bases himself at the Step Rd Winery in the neighbouring wine region of Langhorne Creek. Chris is a local boy who has over 20 years winemaking experience in some of South Australia’s most acclaimed regions including Langhorne Creek, Coonawarra, Riverland and Clare Valley.
Heintje Lange, Winemaker
Being Barossa born and bred Heintje grew with wine running through his veins and has always had a love for winemaking. While completing his studies in Oenology at the University of Adelaide, Heintje was working at Penfold’s Winery based at Nuriootpa which he continued to do until the opportunity arose to experience vintage at Rombauer Vineyards in the Napa Valley, California. Heintje returned to Adelaide and continued his winemaking journey at Yalumba, Nepenthe and Two Hands Wines before joining the Step Road team in 2011.
Our 28 hectare vineyard was first planted in the 1960’s and located at the height of one of McLaren Vale’s most elevated sites in the cool Blewitt Springs sub-region, sitting 130 meters above sea level. Grown in ancient sandy soils, the deep sand above the clay sub-soils allow the vines to be dry-grown with minimal or no irrigation, creating wines of intense flavours & soft mouth filling tannins.
Our vineyard is a true representation of McLaren Vale’s most successful wine-grape varieties – 50 year old gnarly old bush vine Grenache, balanced Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon and leading clones of Chardonnay.
Our Vineyard Team
Overseeing the operations at our Beresford Estate Vineyard is a very passionate team, who between them have over 33 years’ experience working on this site. Vineyard Manager John, who has notched up over 18 years can tell you a story or two in his time and knows every aspect the vineyard has to offer. Both Christine and Mary have been working on the property for 8 and 7 years respectively and are a great support to John.
